Plants can be fashionable

Clothing, shoes, accessories, etc. – Veeglen in the field of fashion

Fashion is wide field and definitely more than clothing- fashion are also shoes, bags, hats, hats, belts, scarves etc. Everyone agrees that it is important to bring about improvements for consumers, the environment and producers in the field of fashion, but it is only wondering how.

What is to be considered in the fashion sector now? And how can you veeglen here?

The most important thing is: ask yourself the right questions and take a closer look!

Question 1 – Which companies do I shop for? Which company made my product? Do I like this company? And why? What are the values of these companies? Do you care about sustainability? For example, there are companies that are critical lyre for the environment and sustainability. Pioneers here are among others armedangels, Patagonia or langbrett.

Such companies have a strong commitment to the environment and attach importance to plant production, resource conservation, good corporate culture, employee support, etc. For example, it is common for you to receive a lifetime warranty on patagonia bags. The products that are manufactured follow an overarching corporate culture. Company values such as commitment to the environment or social commitment are transferred to the company’s products. This also makes shopping easier for you.

Question 2 – In which production facility was the product manufactured? Where was my product made? What transport costs did it cause?
Check out the „Made in…“ on the labels. Most fashion products are now produced abroad. Much of it in China, India, Bangladesh. Very few fashions are produced in Europe, Portugal or Italy. Of course, this does not make things any easier.
There are manufacturers who deliberately advertise with German (such as trigema) or Marc O’Polo with European production facilities. Today, however, this is not very public and also little selling point.

Question 3 – What material is my product made of? So which substances are vegetable? The most important and well-known natural fabrics are certainly cotton and linen. In addition, there are also more and more new substances, such as the lupine, bamboo or hemp.

What is the right product?

There is still far too much opacity in the fashion sector at the moment. It is rare to see at first glance which material it is and where the product was manufactured. The labels are printed far too small and are therefore usually difficult to read and understand where the products come from. Ask and take a closer look! Otherwise you literally buy the „cat in the bag“ – that is, you buy the products simply and poignantly only according to their appearance. This is not enough, because it is also important to know: What material? Which place of production? What are the manufacturing conditions?

Does it look good? Absolutely

When it comes to fashion, it is of course important that things look good. That is the point of fashion! Dress beautifully. Admittedly, there were many years when eco-clothes didn’t look really good! Too wide cut, little chic, uncool and old-fashioned. That has changed completely. There are a number of herbal brands that make great clothes and shoes. Examples can be found e.g. in the following stores: Avocado Store, Avesu, Jojeco and le Shop vegan

At Fashion Week in Berlin, Greenstyle in Munich and other trade fairs, more and more herbal and sustainable products are offered. In 2019, the Greenshowroom and Ethical Fashion Show Berlin trade fairs were also merged for the first time under the name Neonyt.

Stella McCartney is a long-time pioneer of plant fashion – only unfortunately relatively expensive and difficult to afford for ordinary consumers. Gradually, however, the major fashion manufacturers are also switching and adding more and more „green and sustainable“ products to their product range, so there are initiatives from Tchibo, Marc O’Polo, H&M, etc. Traditionally sustainable are companies such as Hess Natur, Waschbär, Armed Angels.

Where can I get the right products?

When shopping for fashion, you like to think of the MyVeegle basic principles: Planty, Regional (ideally Europe for fashion), less plastic, sustainable.

Good fashion can be found e.g. at the following companies. And don’t worry… dead chic and not eco at all.

The classic among eco-labels is Armedangels. Armedangels doesn’t just do fashion, Armedangels has a mission, which is to make fashion eco-friendly and fair. Therefore, suppliers are not just suppliers, but partners. Armedangels can be found online, but also in many brick-and-mortar stores such as Greenguerillas in Düsseldorf and Cologne.

The pioneer in sustainable corporate culture is Patagonia. The principle here clearly applies that all products should last for life. What a great ambition! And the repair is in vain.

In the meantime, there are also good online stores. e.g. the avocado store and Le Shop vegan. Here you will find a wealth of herbal fashion. From clothes to shoes, bags to accessories. Le Shop vegan is for all those „who do not consume blindly, but still do not want to make compromises in terms of style, design and quality“. The avocado store stands out due to particularly clear and exemplary criteria (organic, durable, made in germany, resource-saving, cradle to cradle, vegetable, etc.) Class is also the student discount of 10 percent.

In many cities, not only in big cities, you will find sustainable fashion in mostly very beautiful, advice-friendly shops. For example, in Braunschweig. Here Jojeco advertises with Fairfashion – both stationary and online.

As a woman, who is not annoyed by the huge waste of nylon stockings!?! That is now the end of it. Swedish Stockings – the stockings are sustainable and unbreakable. If they can be returned. Simply magnificent!!! Available from the online shop or in reform houses.

Especially in the outdoor area there are quite a lot of garments that are chemically loaded. The Eco Outdoor Wear from Langerchen comes from much healthier. And that’s a good thing: Fair – Concious – Sustainable. Available via the online shop.

Herbal shoes, bags, belts and purses offer Avesu and Wills Vegan Shoes. Avesu, for example, offers 40 different, guaranteed herbal brands.

Labels don’t really use anything

Whether you buy your fashion online or in person in a store, become more attentive. The idea of labels is basically good, because it wants to give the consumer and the customer guidance, e.g. the Blue Angel should point out for particularly environmentally friendly products. The new fashion label „the green button“ has also been controversial since its introduction. So unfortunately it doesn’t really work with the labels, they don’t deliver what they promise, and you can’t rely on them. That’s why it’s really important to get yourself smart and decide for yourself.

For all products, we invite you to pay attention to the following: Is this vegetable? Is this coming from Europe? Is that fair action? Is this sustainable?

What about plastic? Fashion from recycled materials? Who likes it…

This is definitely a question of taste. This is a good option for shoes, but especially with sweaters or T-shirts, a beautiful organic cotton is simply more inviting than plastic materials.

Sometimes thought completely different!

What do you think of the following ideas?

  1. Clothes exchange among joys and colleagues
  2. Reuse of old T-shirts as cleaning cloths, use of beautiful fabrics from sweaters for hats, etc. Maybe you have someone in your circle of friends who is sewing.
  3. Sell or give away e.g. on the Flomarkt, on clothing circles and mummy circles

One more tip

You like to put on dresses or skirts but are you tired that the tights are usually broken after wearing them? Then we have a great tip for you. Swedish Stockings manufactures high-quality and sustainable socks/tights from recycled yarns.
